About Nature of Movement

Based in Victoria British Columbia, Nature of Movement offers the Anat Baniel Method of NeuroMovement. Robyn Roper is a fully certified and mastery level trained Anat Baniel Method® Neuromovement® Practitioner.  Robyn focuses on working with neurodiverse children and adults and individuals with special needs.

Robyn works from her accessible home studio, but also travels to treat those who cannot travel.  She also collaborates with her NeuroMovement® colleagues in Calgary to give workshops and group intensives under the collective Calgary Neuroplasticity Centre.

Robyn's journey to become a practitioner began in 2011 on the day her then three year old daughter had her first NeuroMovement lesson at the ABM Center in California.  The changes observed that first day were so amazing that Robyn was determined to understand the method's transforming ability.   Click to read more about Robyn.

Why Naturopathy

Why NeuroMovement?

How is it that movement is able to create such profound changes?  Movement is essential to life, our body processes and an integral part of every action.  NeuroMovement is a holistic method that uses gentle touch and movement to improve all human functioning - sensation, emotion, movement, thought and action.  Created by Anat Baniel, the method is based on the principle that movement is the language of the brain providing information the brain needs to learn, upgrade and organize itself for maximum performance and efficiency.  Anat's years of working with Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais as a practitioner and trainer and years of working with adults and children with special needs led her to develop her Nine Essentials - a list of the tools that drive positive brain change and that form the foundation of the Anat Baniel Method NeuroMovement.

NeuroMovement is helpful for many conditions.

Neurologic and Neuromuscular Disorders

Maintaining abilities and keeping connections strong, NeuroMovement creates efficiency and organization that supports optimal functioning and quality of life.  Improvements in flexibility, strength and coordination and a sense of emotional wellness result.

Traumatic Brain Injury and Stroke

NeuroMovement is a vital part of recovery from brain injuries.  The method meets people where they are at in their recovery and helps with remapping the affected parts of the body, taking advantage of the innate neuroplasticity of our nervous system.  Early treatment is critical for maximum benefit but transformation is likely at any stage of recovery.

Genetic Conditions

Using movement as the language of the brain, NeuroMovement helps all individuals develop powerful learning brains and open-ended possibilities to thrive.

Birth Trauma and Developmental Delays

Injuries acquired during birth including torticollis and brachial plexus injury prevent infants from exploring all the movements possible.  Learned non-use hides recovery as the affected areas are less mapped in the brain.  NeuroMovement practitioners use specific, gentle movements  to overcome these limitations.

Similarly, children with developmental delays see improvements in gross and fine motor skills, speech, cognition and self-regulation.

Rehabilitation for Chronic Pain and Injuries

When injured, we tend to reorganize ourselves around the injury to protect ourselves from pain.  NeuroMovement helps create a more even distribution of effort, decreased pain and stiffness and improved ease of movement and function.

Autism Spectrum

Anat Baniel NeuroMovement helps the brain to put order to the disorder of incoming information and make sense of the nonsense.  Improved motor skills, sensory integration and sleep habits,  lead to better focus, social skills, clearer thinking and an  overall sense of well-being and awareness.
